The Old Codgers or Gardners were founded way back in time at the New House Inn and are renowned for their
weekly mix of song, banter and camaraderie which has survived for many years. Meetings used to be held
every Wednesday, however, these are now held every Tuesday with a special entry into the fold for new comers.
They really began during the times of the 'Old Horse Box' era at the Inn
(Glyn Edwards era) and later incorporating some
members of the
South Wales Burma Star Choir who began using the hostelry to lubricate their vocal cords after choir practice sessions.
The Old Codgers Corner is located near to the fireplace in the Bar (This area was originally where the Old Horse Box
used to be) - regular vegetable produce is often on show every week and it has been customary to hold
an annual autumn vegetable show with all produce being auctioned off and all monies donated to a local charity.
Every Christmas a special carol service is held in the bar on Old Codgers night, the Tuesday of Christmas week
- this is usually an open-house affair with all welcome.
